Financial
How will I be paid?
You will receive a check in local currency.
The typical pay period in Chile is 1 month. Teachers are paid on
the last working day of the month.
Will I earn enough to finance my stay in Chile?
This income will permit a teacher to maintain a typical
middle class standard of living in Chile while also enjoying th
Chilean culture.
Do other Institutes pay more?
Some schools offer an hourly teaching rate that could
be higher (without benefits) but cannot offer the fulltime schedules
that Sam Marsalli teachers enjoy. Usually these teachers are obligated
to travel to offices around the city to teach. Because these schools
do not have the volume of clases it is typical that these teachers
work in several different schools to put together enough of a schedule
to meet their financial commitments in Chile.
Due to a completely different infrastructure, scheduling,
and registration system, the teachers in Sam Marsalli only work
in Sam Marsalli enjoying unheard of benefits in our field
Will I have to pay taxes?
The Institute complies with the Chilean tax
laws and your taxes will be reported to the tax department here.
You would need to contact your local tax office at home for tax
regulations on foreign income.
Are there any other benefits?
After 4 months of employment all holidays on a week
day are compensated.
An extra months salary
is given upon completion of your work visa (12 months) that permits
you to finance your ticket back to the USA or travel in Chile.
These benefits do not exist in any other school in
this field.
Does the Institute pay for my visa?
The cost of a working visa is the teachers responsibility.
For more information on this procedure and costs please see Visa
Requirements USA citizens working in Chile. And Consular
Affairs or Embajada de Chile
en Canadá for Canadians.
Does the Institute pay for airfare?
Transportation costs to and from Chile are the exclusive
responsibility of the teacher.
I have student loans, what should I
do?
Teachers with pending student loans are strongly
advised to defer their loans. It is difficult to meet U.S and Canadian
loan payments on you income. Stress and non enjoyment of your foreign
experience would be the result of not deferring your loans.
Teachers with loans from the U.S.A. are advised to
call their lender and ask for the "NEW HRD Economic Hardship
Deferment Request form" "OMB #1840-0716"
Teachers with Canadian loans are advised to call
their lender. Procedures and limitations vary from province to province.
